The Assembly
As the Knights of the Tower arrived and assembled
At Andre’s establishment, they had resembled
A hotch-potch of visitors, acting unknown
To each other, of course, with no interest shown.
In small groups and in pairs and at times quite alone,
They ascended the stairs with a dull monotone
Of discussions of nothing, just words being muttered
Without any sense of intent being uttered.
As each took a seat at the table, Holmes sought
To sit next to his friend for he felt that he ought
To show all there that evening he’d always be there
For Watson, his colleague and friend, anywhere.
Denton started things off with a call to take seats
And select, from a menu of delicious treats,
Any preference held from the restaurant’s fare
Though most took that provided, its taste, full aware.
There had been no discussion of matters selected
By any attendee - each one was elected
For character strength, for the resolve to keep
Any matters to bring up within oneself, deep.
The meals were delivered and quickly despatched
And then coffee was poured and the door firmly latched
To prevent any ears, uninvited, from hearing
The matters which troubled attendees were fearing.
Porter stood, tapped his glass and said, “Now we begin
With discussions of matters which should stay within
Our discrete dinner group till we all can decide
What and how and to whom, tonight’s work, to provide.”
“We’re aware of events which negated a move
To divert lots of Gold bars, a move which would prove
To be foolish and dangerous at the same time –
A move made of treason and also of crime.”
“The Newspapers are mute upon some of the facts.
They know well that a wrong word unduly impacts
Upon delicate matters of murderous men –
Even they see the need to pull back now and then.”
“The truth may come out in due course but, by then,
Any danger engendered won’t matter. So when
The news breaks it will seem to be news of the past
And the worry the Public may feel will not last.”
“Mr Holmes has informed me of lingering fears
He holds of those events for, to him, it appears
There was more to the matter than he at first thought
And our Tower, to meet and discuss things, now ought.”
Sherlock rose to address all those at the Round Table:
“Though to give all the facts at this time, I’m unable,
I have now, as before, been delivered a note
I had thought from my brother - one he never wrote.”
“It made mention of threats to our nation being foiled,
Threats to get it with some others embroiled
In a war of a size which had never been fought –
It was signed just with ‘M’, ‘M’ for ‘Mycroft’ I thought.”
“But that note wasn’t written by Mycroft, my brother,
It was written and despatched by somebody other
Than he, but someone who knew well I would find
It was false - someone who had mischief in mind.”
“I say mischief, but that could mean murder for one
Or for millions, My Friends, if we hadn’t undone
The devices that evil had planned to deploy –
I don’t know what ‘M’ wants. It might be a decoy.”
“Of those in this room, I would ask if they know
Or
